JT Burson, Trumpet

Trumpet performer and educator John-Thomas (“JT”) Burson has pursued his passion for music across a diversity of arenas, including performances with the Aspen Festival Orchestra, Georgia Symphony Orchestra, Spectacle Brass Quintet, Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra, and Anima Brass. Based in Los Angeles, Burson may be heard and seen in a variety of film and television projects, including a recent appearance on CBS’ Late Late Show with James Corden. Selected in recent years as a New Horizons and Brass Quintet Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival, he has been a featured soloist with numerous ensembles, performing Arutunian’s Trumpet Concerto with the KSU Symphony Orchestra and appearing as cornet soloist with the Georgia Symphony Symphony for an audience of over 4,000. Additional solo engagements include John Adams’ Tromba Lontana and the Concerto by Hummel. In 2014, he was the winner of the International Trumpet Guild Sonare Pro Brass Scholarship.

Other venues and music festivals include the National Trumpet Competition, National Brass Symposium, Crested Butte Music Festival, Bay View Music Festival, Sewanee Summer Music Festival, and Bar Harbor Brass Week.

Burson holds a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Performance from Kennesaw State University and a Master of Music (M.M.) in Performance from Stony Brook University. He is currently completing post-graduate work at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where he enjoys a diverse career of performing, recording, and teaching.
